Kevin Chin’s paintings piece together distant lands, to question the line between foreign and familiar. Fluid oils allow cultural references to meld, advocating for more fluid social structures in a globalised world. There is a sense of wandering across continents, a search for a safe space when things feel upside down. Sensitive to those who feel like outsiders, a signature warmth is evoked by layering translucent colours in surprising variations. Chin tests painting conventions to channel inner states, with the aim of transcending worldly borders altogether.
